Nottingham: The Buried Past of a Historic City Revealed

Scott Lomax, 31, has delved into the history books and studied the findings of many of his colleagues to produce a comprehensive guide to the NOttingham city’s archaeology.

The book covers the Norman settlement around the castle and the area that was the town of Nottingham during the medieval period, around what is now the Lace Market.

Areas discussed include prehistoric Nottingham, the Viking occupation, Saxon settlement, the history of the castle and Nottingham during the Civil War. Mr Lomax said: “I have been privileged to have been employed as an archaeologist in Nottingham and that has given me the opportunity to develop a good knowledge of the city’s archaeology, but this book is the culmination of large amounts of independent research and thought.
